AUTHORITIES in Thailand detained the man alleged to have killed an eight-year-old girl after drugging and raping her earlier this week.
The arrest on Thursday came after police launched a manhunt of a 20-year-old suspect who was reportedly the victim’s neighbor and a family friend.
Police are now probing the the suspect, who was identified by his nickname “Fris”, and are having his DNA checked to gather evidence.
However, the investigators did not find any marks on the youth which may have indicated a struggle, according to the Daily News.
The victim identified her attacker when she regained consciousness after being sent to a hospital in the Trang Province in Southern Thailand for appearing delirious and confused, just before she died.
The girl told her mother a man had given her a soft drink, which may have been laced with drugs, on Monday afternoon.
It was earlier said that the suspect had come to her house in the early hours of Tuesday morning while her parents were at work in a rubber plantation, but a latest report recorded the victim’s father as saying the mother did not lock its doors because he was asleep at the time.
The father also said he did not hear any commotion during the time of the incident and believed the rapist was familiar with the layout of the house.
At the hospital, doctors discovered that the “stomach pains” the girl was experiencing was consistent with injuries sustained from rape.
Doctors also found traces of methamphetamine in the soft drink given to the girl and later confirmed that she had died of a drug overdose.
Police are still investigating the case.
