A man has filed a lawsuit against Chinese actress Zhao Wei for staring at him too intensely through his TV set during the prime-time TV show ‘Tiger Mom’ ad causing him “spiritual damage”.
The case highlights concerns in China over new rules that have made it easier for people to file lawsuits and more difficult for courts to reject them, including frivolous ones. The rules, which took effect on May 1, led to a significant increase in cases nationwide last month.
The Shanghai Pudong New District Court’s litigation service hotline confirmed it had received a case against Zhao, one of China’s biggest and richest movie stars.
In the show, Zhao plays a big-eyed and slightly unstable mother who relentlessly pushes her daughter as known to give piercing and slightly manic stares.
