Shocking images, videos emerge from brutal student crackdown in Burma

Burmese police launched a violent crackdown on student protesters in the town of Letpadan Tuesday. At the time of writing the crackdown was believed to be still ongoing. Witnesses said students and journalists were beaten, with many injured.

The clash comes after student protesters started a sit-in on a road near a monastery in Letpadan last week when authorities prevented them from marching to Burma’s biggest city of Yangon.

The demonstrators want the government to scrap a newly passed education law that they say curbs academic freedom.
