HANOI, Vietnam (AP) — A Vietnamese blogger who is partially paralyzed and was jailed for posting articles that oppose the Communist Party says he has been released after two months in prison on medical parole.
Blogger and writer Nguyen Quang Lap, 58, said Wednesday that he was still being investigated for allegedly spreading propaganda against the government.
Contacted by telephone from his home in Ho Chi Minh City, Lap says he was released Tuesday.
The state-run Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper quoted police as saying he was transferred to house arrest because of his “sincere confession” for having committed acts that violate the law.
Vietnam has detained several other bloggers for alleged anti-government postings in recent months. The arrests have been criticized by international human rights groups.
