Man kills 2, injures 14 in China knife attack

BEIJING (AP) — A Chinese state broadcaster says a knife-wielding man in a northeastern Chinese city near the North Korean border went on a slashing spree, killing two people and injuring 14 others.

China Central Television, or CCTV, says the Sunday afternoon attack at a shopping mall in the city of Yanji was carried out by a local Chinese man of Korean ethnicity.

One victim died at the site while another died in a hospital.

CCTV says on its official microblog site that police apprehended the suspect, who was identified only by his surname, Cui.

The broadcaster says an investigation is underway. No motive was mentioned.

Photos posted on CCTV’s microblog showed ambulances parked outside the mall and a covered body on a stretcher.
