Student employability at the University of Derby

Did you know 96% of our students are employed or have gone on to further study within six months of graduating from the University of Derby?

Why are our graduates so employable?

Relevant courses

Our courses are all designed with the student in mind. Students gain real industry insights, we build each syllabus to ensure the course covers what is needed in that particular industry or sector.

Derby has specialised in artsdesign and technology subjects and has been training teachers since the early 1900s. This tradition continues today and we now also offer courses in business, computinglawhealth, the sciences and courses relating to the leisure industries.

Career Development Centre

The Careers Development Centre is available to students throughout their time at the University of Derby. A wide range of services are available from showing you where to look for jobs to helping you prepare for the application process.

Real World Learning

Our focus is on real world learning, allowing you to put what you have learnt in your seminars and lectures into practice in our state of the art facilities such as our computer games suites or commercial our spa. This means our students graduate with relevant work experience before even starting their career.

Student Employability Agency

Registering with the Student Employment Agency will enable you to find out about the latest job opportunities around the university. The SEA can help students to create compelling CVs.

Work placement

Two-thirds of recruiters say that they are interested in students with relevant work experience; which is why most of our courses have the option for students to go on a one year placement experience to develop key skills and connections in the relevant industries. We have brilliant links with companies such as Porche, Microsoft, IBM, Boots, Rolls Royce, Toyota, Pepsico, Sainsburys and Nestle, giving you great and exciting work placement opportunities.
