Oxford Brookes University is pleased to announce a dynamic and ground breaking collaboration between the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mathematical Sciences and Dallara, a world-leading race car manufacturer. The new programme will involve students on the Motorsport Engineering MSc programmes and as a result students will play a major role in the design of a powertrain (mechanism that transmits drive from the engine to the axle) for a forthcoming new Dallara race car.
Dallara is a world-heavy-weight in the race car manufacturing industry. For over 40 years the company has built some of the world’s most competitive racing cars. Currently building cars for a number of different areas such as GP3, F3, Indycar, the new Indylights (coming 2015) and GP2, Dallara builds the fastest and safest cars within each sport. The company’s current state-of-the-art headquarters are in Parma, Italy but they have recently opened a new Research and Development facility in Indiana, USA, a state with a rich auto racing industry.
The new link to Dallara was as a result of meetings between Dr Gareth Neighbour, the Head of Department and Andrea Toso, Head of Research and Development and the US Race and Defence Programs at Dallara.
