Oxford Brookes Racing has been awarded £2,500 from the Institute of Mechanical Engineers this season as part of their Formula Student Award Scheme. An IMechE representative visited Oxford Brookes on Thursday 25th April to present the team with a cheque, and receive an update on the latest developments.
The award is one of several grants awarded to Formula Student teams who demonstrate the values of Formula Student as a learning experience. The Oxford Brookes team application focused on their organisation as a team and their delegation of responsibility without overburdening, as well as the further research they would like to conduct.
Gerald Pickford, Team leader of Oxford Brookes Racing, commented, “I’m delighted that the IMechE have given us this award as it recognises the time and investment that Brookes and its students have made in creating an outstanding learning environment for young engineers. Oxford Brookes Racing is now internationally recognised as a springboard for future F1 professionals and this award will help secure the continued development of the team in the future”.
The team plan to spend their grant on researching lightweight, sustainable crash structures in vehicles.
