Thailand has its own hospitality awards this year, dubbed Wine List of the Year 2012, which will commence July 1.
Released yesterday on its website winelistoftheyearthailand entrants will have twelve categories in which they can enter.
Participants in the Thai hospitality sectors who have a restaurant, hotel, resort, bar or licensed area selling wine will be able to nominate their wine list.
The categories were announced by Jon Hyams, Chairman of Judges and Founder of the Awards.
These are: Best national wine list, best restaurant, best cafe/brasserie, best wine bar, best international hotel restaurant, best resort, best small list (less than 50 wines), four regional best lists, and a consumer award.
Judges will be Jon Hyams (Thailand), Curtis Marsh (Singapore) and this author (Australia).
The national winner receives a fully sponsored study tour to northern Italy courtesy of Independent Wine & Spiritand Grandi Vini D’Italia. There will be some great properties to visit from this organisation’s membership.
Submissions will commence 1 July and close 10 August 2012 at midnight. Entry is 990 baht, significantly smaller than the only other restaurant award available, the US Wine Spectator Awards which are judged remotely.
Awards will be announced at the gala dinner held 12 October later in the year.
It will be interesting if the national carrier submits its elite list for critical acclaim.
