In China, World’s Most Expensive Tea Uses Panda Poo

1

/>Chinese entrepreneur An Yanshi has launched his own brand of organic green tea grown solely from the poo of China’s own national treasure—panda bears.

/>

/>And it doesn’t come cheap.

/>

/>An intends to sell his tea for over $ 200 a cup, making it the “world’s most expensive tea”, according to An himself.

/>

/>An harvests the tea in the mountainous Ya’an in Sichuan province using tonnes of panda excrement collected from nearby breeding centres.

/>

/>The businessman says profits gained would be channeled toward an environmental fund and that he hopes later batches would be cheaper.

/>

/>”I thank heaven and earth for blessing us with this environmental panda tea,” says An, speaking to reporters and dressed in a panda suit.

/>

/>An adds that pandas absorb less than 30 percent of the nutrition from the food which means that more than 70 percent of the nutrients are passed out in their faeces.

/>

/>”I just want to convey to the people of the world the message of turning waste into something useful, and the culture of recycling and using organic fertilisers.”
