Nyenrode Business Universiteit is a prestigious Dutch university that is ‘for business, by business.’ In 1946, captains of industry from leading Dutch corporations such as KLM, Shell, Unilever, Philips and Akzo, took the initiative to start an institute where an action-inclined, internationally-focused generation of new business leaders would be educated.
Today, Nyenrode’s strong links with the industry hold firm and its 15,000 alumni walk the corridors of the biggest companies in more than 80 countries worldwide. Having gained the management and strategic decision-making skills and abilities necessary to thrive in the ever-changing world of business, these alumni have gone on to launch successful organizations, manage market-leading multinationals and become leaders on the world stage.
This is one of the most highly acclaimed business schools in the world. Financial Times places it in the top 50 business schools in Europe, and even higher for executive education. Even the campus itself inspires excellence. Students spend their days around a castle that dates to the 13th century and is surrounded by a moat and beautifully landscaped grounds. It is difficult to imagine a more satisfying setting in which to forge lasting networks, hone leadership skills and prepare for a high-powered business career.
One of Nyenrode’s hallmark programs is its International MBA, and it is certainly its most diverse. Ninety percent of students partaking in the International MBA hail from abroad. This is a full-time, 12-month program that focuses on leadership development, and with class sizes no larger than 45, faculty here can take a more personal approach.
The classes combine problem-based learning, lectures, workshops, case studies, company visits, seminars, business simulations and video conferences. The fast-paced program allows students to build on their ability to work well under pressure while providing for networking opportunities.
Students gain experience, hone skills and expand their networks by working with international companies that span Europe, Asia and North America. This intensive and rigorous program encourages students to develop theoretical approaches in the classroom, which can then be applied to real-world situations.
While the International MBA is Nyenrode’s most popular course offering among foreign students, it also offers a number of other excellent postgraduate business studies options:
This is a particularly lauded course of study that has earned major recognition from the Financial Times. It focuses on grooming professionals for more ambitious leadership roles within their discipline by developing special skills and problem solving abilities. This is a particularly high value-for-money degree when you consider the potential return on investment. Due to its accelerated nature, students only have to leave the professional environment for a year before returning to a much more lucrative position.
Master of Science in Management
A two-part program, the MSc in Management builds skills and leadership abilities on a tight turnaround. It begins with a two-month pre-master program, which is followed by a 14-month Master course. It requires a great deal of focus and motivation and offers students with drive the chance to elevate their careers.
MBA in Business and IT
This is a modular program that consists of nine separate modules, each of which lasts around half a year. One module requires around 10 or 12 hours of a student’s time per week, which means it is feasible for the highly ambitious to undertake two modules at once and finish in half the time. Students commit to a specific track, choosing from public and private, business and IT, or food and finance. Graduates achieve European (EQUIS) and international (AMBA) MBA credentials.
It is also possible to tailor a doctorate program to a student’s specific desires. Nyenrode is one of the most prestigious business schools in Europe, and the professors who mentor doctoral students are well known in their fields. Programs can be theory-based (PhD) or practice-based (Executive Doctorate).
In addition to its beautiful setting, Nyenrode’s vibrant community-oriented campus boasts top-top notch facilities. A variety of accommodation is available for students and the impressive castle grounds are also home to 2 hotels, a deer park, cafeteria, restaurant, 3 bars, and library and computer facilities. Furthermore, Nyenrode Business Universiteit is located in Breukelen, just 20 minutes from Amsterdam which has all the facilities and attractions one would expect from a modern European capital.
