President Obama recently presented Dr. Jay Baliga, in the electrical engineering department, with the National Medal of Technology and Innovation. College of Engineering
NC State’s College of Engineering offers 18 bachelors, 17 masters and 13 doctoral degrees, across nine different academic departments. The engineering college alone had $148 million in research expenditures last year, almost half of the university’s total. NC State ranks 32nd in the world for engineering/technology and computer sciences in the Academic Ranking of World Universities.
NC State has the 4th-largest undergrad engineering enrollment in the US, not surprising given the impressive range of degrees on offer. All the major engineering disciplines are covered here, from aerospace and electrical to mechanical and nuclear.
At graduate level NC State Engineering faculty and staff provide students with the resources, support and research opportunities they need to achieve their highest ambitions. Home to more than 130 corporate and government research partners, as well as incubator companies, and NC State University research units, Centennial Campus is the premier university research campus in the US.
Meanwhile, Dr Roger Barker’s Textile Protection and Comfort Center (T-PACC) is a unique facility that researches, tests and evaluates the comfort and protective performance of garments and textiles. Elsewhere on campus, NC State engineers at the FREEDM Systems Center are creating devices and networks that will one day seamlessly connect rooftop solar panels with batteries that store energy in the basements below, among other developments that will change the way we think about energy usage. NC State has over 3,100 international students, and a firm commitment to diversity on campus. Settling in at NC State
