Petalcorin defends PBF flyweight crown vs Flores

Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) flyweight champion Randy Petalcorin will defend his crown against late substitute Rogen Flores at the Lagao Gym in General Santos City on Saturday evening in the initial offering Sanman Boxing Promotion as part of the highlight of this year’s Kalilangan Festival.

Flores will take the place of Arnel Tadena of Bohol who was scrapped from the match because of a reported hepatitis infection.

Petalcorin hit the scales at 110 pounds.

A former amateur standout, Petalcorin will try to improve his record of 10 wins against a single loss.  He stopped nine of his 10 opponents inside the distance while absorbing his only loss against Marlon Tapales.

Also seeing action is JR Edurot who will gun for the vacant Mindanao Professional Boxing Federation (MPBF) bantamweight title against Erwin Jamlan.

Two late added bouts featuring knockout artists from the boxing stable of former Cotabato Gov. Emmanuel Piñol are expected to wow the crowd.

Twenty-one year old Rommel Asenjo of Pigkawayan, Cotabato will try to improve his 19-2 (win-loss) record with 16 knockouts when he tangles with Jhong-jhong Ponteras (6-4) of Davao del Norte.

His stable mate Lorenzo Villanueva will put his spotless record of 18 wins, 17 of them via knockout against journeyman Ruben Santillanosa.

Also seeing action is Randy Lumacad, younger brother of former world contender Fernando Lumacad who was scrapped from the card after he was offered to fight in Canada next month.

The younger Lumacad will make his professional debut.

The boxing card is the first promotion of Sanman after Wangyu Tan of San Andres Fishing Industries joined forces with JC Mananquil Sports Promotion.

Tan said they hope to revive professional boxing in the city following Manny Pacquiao’s unprecedented eight world title run in as many weight divisions.

Tickets are sold at very low prices.  Ringside is at P100.  Upper box at P50 and general admission is P25.
