Another lese majeste arrest

ASTV Manager reports that at 5.30pm on April 1 Thai police arrested a 38-year-old man in Pathum Thani Province named Tantawut Taweewarodomkul. The police stated that there was a video called “Thailand’s Way Out” (“ทางออกประเทศไทย”) on the website that was deemed to be lese majeste. This program also aired on the red shirt People’s Channel. Police obtained a search warrant to search the People’s Channel premises.

Police say the accused has confessed that he was the person who distributed the statement. He said he was the designer of the website in question and used the alias “red eagle”. In addition, 2-3 other people are involved in the distribution of information for this website and police are investigating further.

A Police Colonel said that “most websites with lese majeste content are registered abroad, but some are registered in Thailand. The authorities are investigating to arrest those perpetrators, but this incident is unrelated to the red shirt protests.”

The police have filed charges under Section 112 of the Criminal Code, lese majeste, but also Section 14(3) of the Computer Crimes Act.
