Just saw this from a few days in The Nation when everyone was still defending the GT200 devices:
Police Lt-General Adithep Panjamanont, commissioner of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau, said his office stopped using the GT200 detector after a month-long trial showed that it was ineffective in detecting drugs.
/>”We stopped using it because seasoned officials, sniffer dogs and x-ray scanners proved to be better in searching for narcotics,” he said.
/>The military, however, said the GT200 was important because soldiers relied on it to hunt down explosives in the restive South.
/>”We would have no confidence without the GT200,” said Lieutenant Tossadol Wongbutr, chief of the bomb disposal squad of the Narathiwat Taskforce.
BP: The police often, deservedly, get a bad rap, but at least Pol. Lt-Gen. Adithep was able to work out the device does not work. His colleague as head of the bomb disposal squad well and his other military colleagues are ….
btw, there is almost a religious fervor in defending the GT200 device and the belief that the device works.
