Christmas in Hong Kong goes ‘light Green’

Designs made from tens of thousands of light bulbs brighten up the holiday season in downtown Hong Kong – at an enormous cost of energy. But now many festive light decorations in the Chinese city are using energy efficient LED lights instead of standard bulbs.

LEDs use around 80 percent less electricity than normal lights and last around 20 times longer, according to a CNN video report.

The LED displays are dazzling and multipurpose – each bulb can create 16 million different colors and will be used for Chinese New Year as well as Christmas decorations. New York and London are also using LEDs for their most famous holiday displays.
