Jerudong International School – Brunei

Jerudong International School (JIS) opened as a boarding school in the small, beautiful multicultural country of Brunei in 1997. The campus is set against unspoilt coastline and tropical forest and offers a unique experience that combines a broad, liberal British and International curriculum with traditional values. JIS welcomes more than 1,600 students aged 2 to 18 from 52 countries.

JIS offers the British International curriculum and prepares students for the International Baccalaureate, International GCSEs and A-Levels. The school prides itself on excellent IB results and many students go on to top universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, the London School of Economics, and many others.

Students at JIS learn in exceptional facilities in a spacious, secure, modern and caring environment. The state-of-the-art, purpose built, ICT networked buildings occupy 300 acres and are only a short drive from the capital city. Students have access to a modern Arts Centre, science laboratories, music facilities, libraries and a range of sports facilities including a swimming pool, a gymnasium, basketball and tennis courts.

Boarding

Jerudong International School offers weekly and full boarding facilities for students in a caring environment. It is one of the best boarding facilities in South East Asia and offers a vibrant, busy and wonderful place for children to live and learn. There are currently two male boarding houses and three female houses, catering for students from Year 7 to Year 13. Accommodation is purpose-built and includes lounges, kitchens, and computer rooms and allows plenty of staff supervision. Students participate in supervised group homework sessions. During their recreation time, boarders have access to the school’s sports facilities and many boarding house events are organised throughout the year.

Junior School (ages 2-11)

JIS welcomes children from age 2 ½ in Junior School for the first stage in their journey through education. After Pre-Prep School, children in Years 3-6 learn to develop their English, and gain a passion for reading. This is their first introduction to class-based learning with a teacher.

Middle Years (ages 11-13)

Middle Years involve students in learning through a range of engaging opportunities and prepare for GCSEs, A-levels or the International Baccalaureate they will take in Senior Years. They follow the UK National Curriculum with teachers who come primarily from the UK.

Upper Years (ages 13-15)

Students hone their academic skills to achieve the best results and develop outside of the classroom through involvement in an extensive co-curricular programme. They complete the International GCSE and GCSE course through coursework and prepare for examinations.

Sixth Form (ages 16-18)

During their final two years, students are afforded opportunities to take initiative and leadership roles and study either for the A-levels or for the International Baccalaureate, before progressing to some of the most prestigious universities in the world.
