International Students are welcome at IUBH!
Every semester IUBH is fortunate to welcome in Bad Honnef groups of international students both for the duration of a full study programme and for exchanges of one or two semesters from our partner universities around the world. Their presence on campus and their contribution to the academic and social life here are an invaluable part of the international atmosphere and learning environment IUBH prides itself for.

International students benefit from the unique opportunity of being able to fully study in English while at the same time being able to learn or improve their German language skills and their understanding of German life and culture. With the assistance of a team of student volunteers, International Office staff strive to make their arrival and stay in Germany as easy and comfortable as possible and organize welcome / information sessions to make the transition to another culture and system of studying as smooth as possible.

International students who have met IUBH admission requirements and who have signed a contract to commence their studies at IUBH may contact the International Office for study-related as well as pre-arrival and arrival matters. Our Graduates Report – Part 3 Tue, 26 Apr 2011 07:31:22 +0000

Excellent investment for a successful future

After my A-Levels in 2007 it was important for me to find a study program which gives me the right combination of practical and theoretical knowledge. For this reason I decided for the practice-related study program “International Management” at the International University of Applied Sciences Bad Honnef · Bonn.

The challenging study courses were taught by the professors through various exercises and examples developing both theory and practical knowledge. The learning atmosphere was always result-oriented and motivating due to small study groups and intensive contact to professors.

An international and practice-oriented education is important for today’s complex economic challenges. The curriculum, which includes an internship and a study abroad semester, is very suitable for these challenges. Therefore, I could complete my internship at Deutsche Bank and a study abroad semester at the University of Hong Kong.

I am looking forward to my time at Ernst & Young as trainee in the “Audit PLUS” program. I am convinced that this program is a logical extension of my career after the studies at the International University of Applied Sciences Bad Honnef. I will always remember my time in Bad Honnef positively.

Directly invited to a personal interview

Even before finishing my A-Levels, I had the desire to pursue a professional career in the aviation sector. The International University of Applied Sciences Bad Honnef · Bonn convinced me with its practical study course in aviation management, giving me the opportunity to combine my personal interest with comprehensive academic knowledge.

With the help of its excellent network, the university helped me to find a six-month internship with the revenue management department of Lufthansa AG. During my time as an intern, I became more and more interested in management tasks concerning full service network carriers. Therefore, I concentrated on classical airline management functions in the progress of my study programme. While still writing my bachelor thesis, I started to apply for various jobs in the aviation industry and was directly invited to a personal interview with Singapore Airlines.

The Management Trainee Programme with Singapore Airlines offers me a unique opportunity in the aviation industry. In my time as a trainee, I will be passing through all of the departments operated by Singapore Airlines in Germany, in order to be comprehensively prepared for my future position within the company. I am thrilled to have this extraordinary chance. I am also convinced that the practice orientated study programme in Bad Honnef is a valuable foundation for my professional career development.

Valuable insights on a different level

As was the case for many of my co-students as well, I had been fascinated with the global opportunities within the hospitality industry long before I started my studies at the International University of Applied Sciences in Bad Honnef · Bonn in September 2005. One of the crucial reasons that determined my decision to study at the IUBH was the combination of theory and practice that students are offered by its programs. My four years of studies – including two internships and one year-abroad in the USA, respectively – only confirmed my opinion that a balanced mixture of theory and practice produces great opportunities for students to acquire not only knowledge, but in-depth experiences as well, since these are the qualifications that render young graduates attractive to future employers.

It was during my first semester at the IUBH that I acquired a more detailed knowledge of The Ritz-Carlton Hotels and Resorts. Being a benchmark for the entire luxury hotel industry, the company was frequently used by professors as an example demonstrating service excellence, an exceptional company culture, and the passion to create a legendary service, for which The Ritz-Carlton is undoubtedly globally renowned for.

When starting my first internship in the Sales & Marketing department of The Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Rey, California, I felt right away that I had picked exactly the very special company that I had been hoping for. Being treated like a full time employee, I enjoyed working in a very dynamic environment in which I could really make a difference. I completed my second internship at The Ritz-Carlton Corporate Office in Chevy Chase, Maryland, and was thus given the opportunity to gain valuable insights on a different level of the company’s structure. As an intern in the Corporate E-Commerce department, I was part of a very professional and dedicated team and enjoyed being given many opportunities to learn and develop as well as the freedom to develop my individual strengths. Hence, I am very grateful that I was offered a position at the Corporate E-Commerce Marketing department after completing my studies and I am excited and proud to be with a company that does not only provide genuine care for its guests, but for its employees as well.

IUBH Societies

Many students spend their free time together for a certain purpose; be it the increase of knowledge – both the own and the others’ – or the participation in competitions. And let’s not forget the social involvement. Here’s an example of IUBH Societies.

IUBH Grape(s)ociety
In 2002 Grape(s)ociety, the university’s wine club, was founded. With a general goal of bringing wines and wine knowledge closer to the university students, faculties and administration, Grape(s)ociety has organised over 50 small and large tastings with renowned world’s best sommeliers and winemakers. For example an extravagant cava tasting as well as an intimate chocolate and of course wine degustation. Grape(s)ociety is headed by hospitality management professor Willy Legrand and supported by student members of Grape(s)ociety.

Student Marketing Association
The Student Marketing Association (SMA) is a community of people interested in and dedicated to marketing as a business function and philosophy. Everybody interested in marketing is welcome in our association. New members don’t need to have marketing proficiency yet. Amnesty International event at IUBH Sun, 10 Apr 2011 15:44:41 +0000

On Monday, April 4 2011, the Bad Honnef group of Amnesty International organized a successful event on the topic of Amnesty International and human rights’ abuses in Latin America.

The event was based on the film “The Invisibles” by Gael Garcia Bernal & Marc Silver which portrays the unacceptable treatment of migrants passing through Mexico on their way to USA (available in 4 parts at More than 40 participants from the university and local schools and members of the general public heard a short introduction on the work of Amnesty International before watching the film. This was followed by some information about the human rights situation in Latin America, in particular in Guatemala, and a lively debate in Spanish and English indicating the participants’ interest in the topics of human rights, Latin America and migrants.

The local Amnesty International group was able to collect numerous signatures for their petitions on investigations into human rights abuses that are being sent to politicians in Mexico and Guatemala. The group hopes to be able to conduct further successful events at the International University of Applied Sciences in Bad Honnef.

Where is Bad Honnef? Fri, 01 Apr 2011 19:31:43 +0000

The Gateway to Romantic Rhine
Bad Honnef – also known as “the Nice of the Rhineland” – is not only situated idyllically in the Siebengebirge (a hilly region called the ‘Seven Mountains’), one of Germany’s most beautiful tourist regions, but also close to the cities of Bonn, Cologne and Düsseldorf, as well as the neighbouring countries of the Netherlands, Belgium and France. This peaceful environment – ideal for studying – is, nevertheless, the hub of Germany’s densest university and research landscape, in Europe’s number-one economic region. The region’s extensive range of leisure-time pursuits provides a welcome counter-balance to the compact programme of and intensive project work.

Our second campus is located in Bad Reichenhall – Bavaria:

Surrounded by the mountaintops of the Berchtesgadener and Chiemgauer Alps, Bad Reichenhall, the ‘State Spa Resort’ with the mild climate, is located 20 km from Berchtesgaden and Salzburg as well as 135 km from Munich. The neighboring countries Austria and Italy can also be reached quickly. The city is known for the production of salt at the ‘Alte Saline’. The salt-mine’s 4000-year history can be discovered at the salt museum.

The surroundings are ideal for studying and offer with their comprehensive leisure time activities a welcome balance to the compact study programme. In midst of mundane urbanity and alpine landscape students live surrounded by first class hotels and restaurants.
