- Andrew Bartlett lives in Brisbane. He served for nearly 11 years as a Senator representing the state of Queensland in the Australian Parliament. He failed to get re-elected in the 2007 election when his former party, the Australian Democrats, lost all their Parliamentary representation. During his time in Parliament he was heavily involved in Parliament Inquiries, legislation, policy and debates in the areas of migration, refugees, Indigenous Australians, defence & veterans, housing, human rights, social services, environment and animal protection. In 2004, he became the first Australian Parliamentarian to start regularly blogging. He maintains an interest in trying to expand public participation and engagement in political and social debates, and continues to write on political and cultural issues for a number of online publications in Australia. He currently works as a Research Fellow with the Migration Law Program at the Australian National University, as well as working with a range of community based organisations in migration settlement and human rights.
