KCL: Caring for mind and body

From the medics’ musicals and sports teams, to the constant emails asking for participants in medical trials, we are kept well aware of the energy and enthusiasm of our future doctors and researchers, and all the great work they do. Today, this had a particular resonance for me. When I was four years old, I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, and ever since it has caused severe pain, joint damage, fatigue and periods of difficulty moving, impacting on both my social and my academic life. Luckily, I’m on the best medication currently available, which means I can be much more active than I would have been with the best treatments available five years ago, for example, but they can sometimes make you feel even worse than the arthritis itself
