Western Australia’s Murdoch University is a nexus of free-thinkers in the Asia-Pacific region, and this fosters an atmosphere conducive to research and postgraduate scholarship. The main campus is located in Perth, far from the commotion of Melbourne and Sydney. Facilities are a major draw card as well. The Media Arts Centre hosts a comprehensive array of equipment and facilities. Technicians, tutors and lecturers in the centre are all industry professionals. Master of Arts in Communication Management
This 12-month programme focuses on managing communication in an international context, with particular emphasis placed on the Asia-Pacific Region. It takes in a range of disciplines and professional practices and develops students’ professional and intellectual skills in preparation for a variety of careers. Graduates go on to careers in public relations, creative industry consultation and corporate communications, among other fields.
Master of Media Management
For professionals who have already established a career in media, this programme will equip them for management. The range of studies encompasses strategic communication, finance, marketing, media leadership and organisational leadership. Part of this programme is a research-based industry project. The program takes one and half years to complete full-time, making use of both summer and winter terms.
Master or Doctor of Philosophy
Postgraduate research degrees in Media, Communication and Culture are available at the Master’s and Doctoral level. These are highly customisable degrees with plenty of opportunity for interdisciplinary crossover. The master’s course takes two years to complete, and the doctorate four.

Asia Pacific Centre for Media Economics and Communication Management Research
This centre is the result of collaboration between the School of Media, Communication and Culture and Beijing’s Communication University of China. Research conducted here explores how Australia and China might learn from each other in their individual quests to preserve and sustain national identify and cultural heritage. The center opened in 2012 and has generated significant interest on behalf of students in Asia.
Centre for Everyday Life
This research centre is devoted to the study of culture and technology in everyday life. It’s poised at the forefront of new scholarship and takes a specific focus on network communication and online technology. This line of study is under constant development, and it’s motivated by social justice values.
Audience Research Labs
Researchers at this centre are actively exploring the future of television. Media is evolving at such a rapid pace, that research often lags behind. Murdoch’s Audience Labs are pioneering efforts to maintain with – or even get ahead of – trends in digital communication. Research teams are interdisciplinary, and sponsorship comes from some of the world’s leading brands, media platforms and television networks.
National Academy of Screen and Sound (NASS)
This is a multi-campus research centre that specialises in the production of creative works based on research in communication, media and culture. NASS is committed to multidisciplinary approaches to screen production research – both on a local and international scale. The centre has a hand in project incubation, consultancy, exhibitions and festivals.
