KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — A lawyer says an Iranian man held in Malaysia has denied involvement in an alleged terror plot in Thailand.

Masoud Sedaghatzadeh was arrested at a Malaysian airport last month while attempting to travel back to Tehran. He had been in Thailand at the time of an accidental blast in a residential Bangkok neighborhood. Thai authorities have detained two other Iranians who they say may have been planning a bomb attack on Israeli diplomats.

Sedaghatzadeh’s lawyer in Malaysia said Thursday he opposes extradition and was in Thailand for a holiday.

A Malaysian court is expected to schedule hearings later Thursday to determine whether Sedaghatzadeh can be sent to Bangkok. Malaysia and Thailand do not have a formal extradition agreement.
