Vermont-based Ben & Jerry’s has unveiled its latest flavor, inspired by latest bastketball-sensation and Harvard University grad, Jeremy Lin.

‘Taste The Lin-Sanity’ features a frozen yogurt vanilla-based concoction, with lychee-honey swirls and “crumbled fortune cookies”, according to NY Daily News.

However, after an almost-immediate backlash over racist implications of using fortune cookies, the store apologized and substituted fortune cookies with a waffle cookie variety.

“On behalf of Ben & Jerry’s Boston Scoop Shops we offer a heartfelt apology if anyone was offended by our handmade Linsanity flavor that we offered at our Harvard Square location… Our intention was to create a flavor to honor Jeremy Lin’s accomplishments and his meteoric rise in the NBA, and recognize that he was a local Harvard graduate,” the company posted on Twitter.

‘Taste The Lin-Sanity’—the vanilla frozen-yogurt with lychee honey swirls and a fresh waffle cookie—will be selling at the brand’s Harvard Square shop—near the star’s alma mater.

Ryan Midden, the company’s Boston and Cambridge manager, told the Boston Globe that the promotion includes an “in-store basketball hoop”—where customers can try to win a $ 1 discount.

The promotion will continue through Harvard’s basketball season, and some proceeds will go to charity.
