According to Twitter, the TV screening of the highly-popular Anime Castle in the Sky in Japan has set a new record of 25,088 tweets per second—the most tweets per second thus far.

This exceeds the news of Steve Jobs’ death , which garnered 10,000 tweets per second, and Beyonce’s pregnancy news of 9,000 tweets per second.

Japan is estimated to have 10 million people on Twitter, with Japanese as the second-most used language on Twitter.
