Boxing: Petalcurin KOs overmatched ThaiBy Edwin Espejo Jun 13, 2011 7:18AM UTC
Randy Petalcurin barely sweated as he knocked out a smaller and obviously overmatched Thai Yodching Sithikonnapha who fought for only the third time in his professional career at the Lagao Gym in General Santos City Saturday.
Petalcurin greeted the Thai with powerful left straight to the face before connecting with his powerful hooks to the body that sent the novice Thai boxer into the canvass writhing in pain.
The Thai boxer lay on the canvass for more than five minutes before he was helped to his stool.
In capturing the vacant Asia Continental junior flyweight crown, Petalcurin improved his record to 13 wins and a single loss. He has knocked out 12 of his previous opponents.
Fernando Lumacad continued with his comeback by hammering an impressive second round knockout of Ricky “Tyson’ Sabia.
Lumacad unleashed a powerful left hook to the side of Sabia who fell to his knees and was counted out.
It was a night of abbreviated bouts as JR Edurot also registered a knockout win over journeyman Ervin Jamlan.
In other contests, Ronnie Apilado engaged Ruben Santillanosa in a phone booth brawl that saw the two fights exchanging close counter punches.
In the fourth round, Apilado hurt Santillansoa who dropped to his knees after absorbing heavy blows to the body. Santillanosa however gamely stood up and finished the scheduled eight-round bout.
Other results show JP Macadumpis winning by unanimous decision over Joseph Dimos in six rounds of the most exciting match of the evening and Ryan Lumacad notching his fourth win over Leo Galleposo in as many fights. Ryan also registered his third abbreviated victory.
Raul Posta, meanwhile, bucked a second round knockdown to win by unanimous decision over Allan Piodena.
The boxing card was promoted by Dexter ‘Wangyu’ Tan and JR Mananquil of Sanman Promotions.
