Petalcorin sets defense of PBF light fly crownBy Edwin Espejo Feb 08, 2011 7:34AM UTC
Promising boxer Randy Petalcorin will defend his Philippine light flyweight title when he goes up against Arnel Tadena of Bohol on February 26 at the Lagao Gym in General Santos City.
It will be the first title defense for Petalcorin who won the PBF crown via a two-round technical knockout win over Allan Doronilla in December last year.
A former amateur standout, Petalcorin will try to improve his record of 10 wins against a single loss. He stopped nine of his 10 opponents inside the distance while absorbing his only loss against Marlon Tapales.
In the undercard, Fernando Lumacad will try to revive his boxing career when he fights Ricky Sabia.
Lumacad is coming off a disappointing draw against Jong Ponteras in December last year but hopes that, with a new manager, he will be back on the winning track.
Lumacad recently left Ken Smith’s ABA stable and signed up with JM Sports Promotion which is promoting the February 26 card along with SAFI Sports Promotion.
The 24-year old bantamweight lost via a knockout to former world champion Jorge Arce in 2009 after compiling an impressive 19-1-2 (win-loss-draw) record.
Since the Arce defeat, Lumacad is 2-1-1.
Also seeing action in the same boxing card are unbeaten bantamweight JR Edurot who will trade punches with Erwin Jamlan and Marlon Alta who will face Jesar Ancajas.
Others in the undercard are Jobel Romasasa, JP Macadompis and Ryan Lumacad, who will face separate opponents.
The boxing card is part of the activities of the Founding Anniversary of the cities of General Santos and Koronadal as resettlement areas.
It will also coincide with the annual Kalilangan Festival of General Santos City.
