They were ratted out by the adults? The adults that ran the joint? WTF was going on there?

I still wonder why Korean parents would send their kids to a third world country to study English in an illegal Korean Hagwon taught by illegal Korean teachers without checking the Hagwon out properly first. Remember, Korean parents “Love their children better than western parents”.

I’d lay odds that the adults who ratted the students and the school out were teachers at the school, and they did it in retaliation for not being paid in months. Yeah, they were illegal too, but I imagine the school will feel the brunt of the law. The teachers will just face a fine and be deported (maybe not even a fine, in “thanks” for blowing the whistle)

Typical Koreans breaking the law, whether at home or abroad too many Koreans simply don’t respect or follow the law. I thought they were suppose to be smart? Oh yeah I forgot, ethics don’t matter. That must be some education they receive huh?

I would think that the ‘native English’ teachers were Filipino nationals, and since they are citizens of the country they reside in, they wouldn’t feel any repercussions from ratting out their foreign employers/co-teachers, who now facing deportation, ratted out the students, too.

Sounds to me like the Korean owners tried to pull the same shit they pull so often on English teachers in Korea and it didn’t work out so good since the Philippine government is hardly going to deport their own citizens for taking money in their own country.

Looks like it wasn’t actually adults at the school in question who ratted everyone out. It was the owner of a competing school.

She had been asked by the Korean recruiting students to admit several of them, and she refused, then blew the whistle** on the whole shebang. She joined police on the “raid” and was quite angry to find out the illegal school was using HER school’s name for recruiting the students and using HER school uniforms to make them seem legit.

**this was not the first time she blew the whistle on illegalities either. 2005(?) she was in danger of some pretty serious repercussions for her role in whistleblowing something in the government. A colleague(?) was actually murdered for his role in it.
