This picture from Karachi has been floating around Facebookville and the Twitterverse. May as well put it up here.

First of all, that’s pretty clever, you have to admit. Secondly — and I may sound like I’m from the NYT or the Atlantic here — but I have to say I am pretty shocked that an d for pads is so overtly and prominently displayed. Karachi is not Peshawar — I’ve seen billboards the same size for lingerie ads, for instance — but I don’t ever recall seeing an ad for this particular product this publicly. My understanding of Pakistani womanhood is that for all intents and purposes, there’s no such thing as “getting your period,” unless you’re talking to your mum. For everyone else, the phenomenon may as well not exist. I dunno…ladies, am I wrong?
