Original article in Korean is here. The best source for the “false facts” doctrine in this case that I could find by a quick Google search is over at The Flying Yangban.

The university involved is apparently Kyunghee University.

A professor, who was recently fired by a university K in Seoul over allegations that he sexually assaulted a female foreign student, has filed a complaint of false accusation against the student and hopes the truth will emerge.

According to police on the 3rd, prof. A liberal arts university “K” recently filed a complaint with them alleging that “the student, B, spread false facts and caused the school to punish me.”

Prof. A wrote further in the complaint that “it’s true that I drank together with B and then went to a motel with her but I did not forcibly sexually assault her… B spread these false facts with the intent of having the unviersity punish me.”

Having received a properly-formed complaint the police called in A and B for questioning, and plan to investigate the materials compiled during the university’s disciplinary process.

The university opened a committee on the 30th of last month which decided on termination, stating, “in May, after the first semester had completed, prof. A drank alcohol with B in Gangnam and took her to a hotel, damaging his integrity as a professor.”

Prof. A has turned in his resignation, but the school plans to open a disciplinary committee to investigate whether to fire him. If he is fired he will receive no severance pay.

After prof. A put in his complaint, B re-entered the country after the end of school vacation and went to her embassy for advice and has denied the allegations.

Accordingly, the likelihood of this incident creating diplomatic trouble cannot be ignored.
