The Hospitality Training Association Inc (HTA) has been working in the southeast Queensland hospitality and management industry for 28 years, training the chefs, kitchen staff, housekeeping and hotel management staff of the future both in Australia and around the world.
Students seeking a firm grasp of the industry with both practical and theoretical skills have used HTA to get started with their careers. Highly skilled and experienced HTA instructors guide students from 33 different countries through the know-how, while hands-on internships in leading Australian tourism areas give them plenty of on the job experience.
Academics
HTA was founded by Queensland’s peak hospitality industry bodies (Clubs Queensland; Hotel, Motel and Accommodation Association; Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Union; Queensland Hotels Association; and Restaurant and Catering Queensland) so training is tailored to meet the high expectations of the hospitality industry.
Students also learn in new multi-million dollar, state-of-the-art facilities, are taught by professionals with decades of industry experience, and complete internships in leading hospitality establishments.
The HTA offers a range of courses to give students the start they need for a successful career in hospitality and/or culinary arts. Perhaps HTA’s most popular course is a combined program of a Certificate III in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery) and Diploma of Hospitality Management and patisserie. This course brings together aspects and disciplines of the certificate in commercial cookery with a diploma in hospitality.
Campus life
The HTA’s training facilities are located in southeast Queensland, which is one of Australia’s premier tourism markets, featuring internationally-renowned destinations such as the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Sunshine Coast so there is never a shortage of things to do and places to see for students.
In addition, with the region attracting millions of visitors from across the world each year, the local hospitality industry understands the high demands and quality visitors expect. This translates into the type of hospitality training provided at HTA with industry-relevant training and exposure.
Life after HTA
HTA graduates have little difficulty finding employment in their chosen field. Students receive industry-relevant skills and qualifications which are recognised and respected globally and fully transportable. The curriculum and content mirrors that required by leading global institutions so that students can receive multiple awards and qualifications as part of their HTA program. These include the certificates and Diploma’s awarded by the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET), an international leader in beverage training, and City & Guilds, the UK’s largest vocational trainer.
Graduates are equipped with a platform of skills which enable them to work in the operational areas of the hospitality and tourism industry (e.g. kitchen, patisserie, bakery, food & beverage services and banquets, front office and housekeeping) or into entry level supervisory positions and progress up the “career ladder” quickly in management positions after gaining on the job experience.
