A Bangkok Post article featuring Sanook.com advertising agency TopSpace, has revealed a set of statistics for Facebook and Hi5 users in Thailand higher than any other numbers to date.

As is usually the case with social networking statistics in Thailand, there is no source or verification to back the statistics up, making it impossible to know if they are correct.

*Facebook has an estimated 2 million users (this figures is 1,632,880 according to checkfacebook.com and 1.34 million according to AIS)

*Hi5 has an estimated 6 million users (it is not mentioned if these are active users or total accounts registered in Thailand)

*The figure for Twitter is not known (AIS believes it to be 600,000)

With a population of 67,386,383 these statistics would put Hi5 membership at around 9% of the population of Thailand.

If correct, the figure suggests that the gap between Hi5 and Facebook is wider than originally imagined.

These are the most recent public Hi5 users statistics though it should not be forgotten that TopSpace has had a relationship with Hi5 since 2007, so the quoted statistics may be weighted in Hi5’s favour.
