World Cup celebrations produce first death in South Korea

At approximately 12.40am on June 13 16-year-old A was returning from a World Cup celebration held on the road in front of Hakseong High School in the Shinjeong-dong area of Ulsan when he was struck and killed by a Hyundai Sonata driven by 30-year-old Mr B.
A member of the police said, “the driver Mr B crossed the pedestrian walkway in front of Hakseong High School while moving through the rotary towards the courthouse and hit A, whom he was unable to see but knew there had been an accident, and fled the scene before being caught by police.”
The driver Mr B has a history of drunk driving for which his license had been suspended, investigators said.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the accident by interviewing Mr B and friends of A who were at the scene.
