Last month, the ShadowLands was considering drawing readers’ attention to the Australian Youth Climate Coalition’s Climate Reality Week Competition.

Young Australians were offered some wonderful prizes for stunts raising awareness about climate change including a $2000 Intrepid Travel voucher, Woodford Folk Festival and Cat Empire tickets, $500 towards climate initiatives, and two $100 book vouchers.

By themselves, the tickets to the Woodford Folk Festival - about one hour’s drive north of Brisbane - would almost certainly help to liberate tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, not to mention the travel vouchers. But on reflection, we decided to pass on the story.

Yes, climate campaigners are generally big, stinking hypocrites, but it all seemed a bit too 2008 to bother posting about. Scientists have long since established that there is an inverse correlation between how much noise someone makes about climate change and their personal commitment to reducing their carbon footprint. On this subject, thanks to the work of Al Gore and others, this debate is over.

However, on returning to the AYCC’s main site, I was surprised to discover that they have hidden the results of the competition from the prying eyes of anyone visiting their main page and trying to click through to find it. So it’s just as well we had bookmarked it.

Just as mysterious as what happened to details about prizes offered as part of their Climate Reality Week Competition are the details about who funds the Australian Youth Climate Coalition itself - an organisation which appears to exist pretty much for the purpose of helping to send hordes of uni students to conferences in distant lands.

UPDATE: AYCC responds in comments.
