Founded in 1967, the University has grown to include 26,500 students, including 4,900 international students and 2,700 staff across multiple campuses. The main campus of La Trobe is located in Melbourne with other campuses in Albury-Wodonga, Bendigo, Mildura and Shepparton.

La Trobe University offers more than 450 undergraduate, postgraduate and research programs, encompassing traditional, professional, vocational and clinical fields of study. 

All programs reflect the University’s commitment to quality assurance and excellence in teaching and learning. Many programs offer industry cadetships, placements or projects and are accredited by professional associations nationally and internationally.

Faculty & Staff
The University offers an exceptional student-to-staff ratio; ensuring students receive the academic support they need to succeed. 

In 2009, three academics from the Faculty of Science, Technology and Engineering were awarded Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning by the Australian Learning and Teaching Council. These academics join an extensive list of La Trobe University staff awarded the honour since 1998 in areas such as arts, mathematics, law, nursing, neuropsychology, history and overall student experience.

In addition to La Trobe’s outstanding academic staff, the University has a vibrant and diverse research community. It is internationally recognised for the quality of our research and a research strategy which promotes innovation, specialisation and collaboration. In 2010, construction began on the A$230 million AgriBio, the Centre for AgriBiosciences, the A$97.9 million La Trobe Institute for Molecular Biosciences in Melbourne and the A$88.9 million La Trobe Rural Health School in Bendigo.
