Original article. Frankly, it wouldn’t surprise me to learn that sexual abuse is endemic in short track programs, given the major sexual abuse scandal uncovered in basketball programs barely two years ago.

Also, I would think that anyone with access to Naver could easily figure out the real name of the accused coach.

A coach with the national short-track skating team, has been arrested by police for sexually assaulting a female middle school student.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency (경기지방경찰청) announced on April 19 that it had arrested 41-year-old Mr A, a coach with the nation short-track skating team, on charges of sexually assaulting a female student.

According to police, at the beginning of January Mr. A sexually assaultted 15-year-old B, a middle school student he had been teaching in an indoor ice rink.

Mr A is also accused of repeatedly molesting B during the several years he had been instructing, beginning when she was in elementary school.

Mr A’s crimes belatedly came to light when B’s parents recently learned of these facts and went to police.

Police are investigating whether Mr. A committed any further crimes.

Mr A, who first came to prominence with the national speed skating team and teaches it to elementary, middle, and high school students at various education offices in Gyeonggi-do, became a coach with the short track national team in 2007 and has attended several national short track competitions as a coach.
