That is a bit like jumping to conclusions and quite a horrible accusation to make. It could just be that the shirt was put at a height so it could be seen. It is positioned just over head height. There is also a non-violent message on it. Sticking it up there was likely done for attention and not symbolic reasons. Cant you just give them the benefit of the doubt if you have any and spend time being more critical of actual violent acts or the threats thereof

A while back you described Arisaman as a mere hothead for suggesting bringing bottles to fill with petrol and to burn Bangkok and when a bunch of people in pink stick a T-shirt on a tree you immediately equate it to an emotive lynching in Thailand history. Is a little bias slipping in here perhaps?

it is not a coincidence, I think.
the lynching mood is well enough – today there was a news report about “pink” (or disguised “blue”/ “yellow” / “khaki” ?) attacking some red-shirt motorcyclists.

of course Media, ajarns, gov & “public” (Bkk middle class) are not eagerly hurry to “condemn the violence” by those pink shirts.

imagine if it was rather opposite – if some reds would do the same to some “pink” – what a sure howl all over Media it would raise and endless accusations of “violence”

I guess old Orwellian rule still works :

But some animals are more equal than other” :)

(for some it is Ok to use violence, it is sort of “righteous anger” – while for others it is not, even if it is committed by disguised provocateurs, as many were last year during Songkran events)

“Enough is enough” in the back of the red shirt is symbolic. The 1976 incident was barbaric and insane. The two events are miles apart. They are not coincidental.

@BP – just to set it right. The text to the picture from 1976 says:

So not monarchist avtivists but communist students hung and beat the poor guy.

If we want to make a relation back to former times, I suggest the following:

The “khmer rouge” came out to clean Kambodia from the “amata”. They represented the rural population and the “working class”. Everybody knows the result.

Listen to the speaches of the “red” (what a coincidence with the color of the communist parties around the world) and you might hear many phrases very well known from Marx and Engels.

Nation and ASTV is definitely not red biased. I’m quite sure that those red is not simply drive by. But when you have a rally for peaceful demonstration, you should exhibit the exceptional degree of tolerance/patient.

It’s ironic, isn’t it.

But is it matter in Thailand?

Actually the truth is that initially the group of students at Thammasat hung an effigy of someone form the tree at TU Thaprajan in symbolic protest. You should not that too.

Do you know your history? Do you know what that hanging skit at Thammasat was about? I think not, so I will tell you. It referred to the lynching deaths of two union activists a day or two earlier in Nakorn Pathom, almost certainly by police. Right kill left, in other words. So please don’t go preaching about telling truth unless you are willing to offer some yourself.

You could make such an assumption if you’re blinkered pro-Red. In fact I, like many Bangkok residents, are sick to death of the non-productive protests, whether yellow or red. If someone put up a yellow shirt with the same note, I’d not think it had anything to do with hanging a person. The shirt is symbolic of what is actually is, for god’s sake: a shirt!

BP, it was you who suggested comparing pinks to 1976 mob. The excuse that you simply asked a question (Coincidence?) is irrelevant. If it were a trial there would have been immediate “Objection – Leading” cries from opposing lawyers.
