Yesterday, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva met with Privy Council President Prem – Deputy PM Suthep and Abhisit himself have confirmed the meeting took place. Below is a summary of the Thai Rath‘s report:

In the evening of January 13, Abhisit meet with Prem at Prem’s residence for about 30 minutes. The topic of discussion was the country’s problems (มีการหารือถึงปัญหาสถานการณ์บ้านเมือง), especially the Red Shirt protests (โดยเฉพาะการเคลื่อนไหวของกลุ่มคนเสื้อแดง) as Thaksin is trying to go on the offensive as he wants his 76 billion baht and so wants to bring down the government (จึงพยายามเดินเกมเพื่อล้มรัฐบาลชุดนี้).

At the meeting, it was discussed that the coalition, including Banharn’s Chat Thai Pattana and Newin’s Bhum Jai Thai, who are trying to pressure the government into amending the constitution. If there is too much pressure then the government may have to dissolve parliament. Prem gave moral support to the PM (ได้ให้กำลังนายกรัฐมนตรี) and say he didn’t want to see parliament dissolved (ไม่อยากให้นายอภิสิทธิ์ ยุบสภา) and for Abhisit to continue to govern the country (และอยากให้นายอภิสิทธิ์ บริหารชาติต่อไป). Prem said he was willing to speak to Banharn to find a solution (ทั้งนี้พล.อ.เปรม พร้อมจะพูดคุยปัญหาดังกล่าวกับนายบรรหาร เพื่อหาทางออก).

Abhisit also spoke to Prem to consult with him about how to proceed regarding Surayud’s house at Khao Yai Tieng. Abhisit said the way to proceed was according to the facts and in accordance with the law. If a green light was not given to this the action taken by the forestry department which will consider the matter within seven days will not be clear and will create chaos as it is a matter the Red Shirts are following closely. Prem stated that in order to proceed that obstacles should be reduced and that all government agencies including the PM should proceed correctly. Prem was also concerend about the Red Shirt protests. Abhisit responded by saying that he will not allow the protests to affect the rights of the people and would not allow the Red Shirts to encroach on private property as the Red Shirts have to be within the law.

(นายอภิสิทธิ์ได้ขอปรึกษาแนวทางการดำเนินการกรณีบ้านบนเขายายเที่ยงของ พล.อ.สุรยุทธ์ จุลานนท์ องคมนตรี ซึ่งนายอภิสิทธิ์ได้บอกถึงแนวทางในการดำเนินการเพื่อให้เป็นไปตามข้อเท็จ จริงและถูกต้องตามกฎหมาย ถ้า หากไม่ไฟเขียวกรณีดังกล่าว  การดำเนินการที่กรมป่าไม้ จะพิจารณาภายใน 7 วันจะออกมาไม่ชัดเจน และจะนำไปสู่ความวุ่นวายที่กลุ่มคนเสื้อแดงกำลังติดตามกรณี ดังกล่าว มิฉะนั้น จะทำให้สถานการณ์บานปลายใหญ่โต พล.อ.เปรมกล่าวว่า เพื่อให้ทุกอย่างเดินหน้าไปได้และมีอุปสรรคน้อยลง  ขอให้หน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้อง รวมทั้งนายกรัฐมนตรี ดำเนินการไปตามสิ่งที่ถูกต้อง นอกจากนั้น พล.อ.เปรมยังมีความเป็นห่วงกรณีกลุ่มคนเสื้อแดงจะไปชุมนุมกันที่บริเวณเขา สอยดาว จ.จันทบุรี ซึ่งนายกรัฐมนตรียืนยันว่าจะไม่ให้เกิดผลกระทบต่อความเป็นอยู่ของประชาชน และจะไม่ให้มีการล่วงล้ำที่ดินของเอกชน อีกทั้งยืนยันจะทำให้กลุ่มคนเสื้อแดงอยู่ในกรอบของกฎหมายด้วย)

BP: Interesting, if the report is correct, that Abhisit needs the green light from Prem and that they were talking about political matters. Abhisit denies this though and just says it was to give New Year’s greetings to Prem. If so, that was a good 30 minutes of greetings then..

A government source also said Thaksin was believed to have borrowed money from a Russian oil company to finance his political comeback.

“He’ll be in big trouble with the Russians if he cannot repay that debt,” the source said. “But wherever he goes, he likes to have his photo taken with VIPs, to assert his status.”
