By Bangkok Pundit Nov 10, 2009 2:00PM UTCAP:
A government spokesman says that Thailand’s ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has arrived in Cambodia, fueling tensions between the neighoring countries.
The fugitive leader was earlier named economic advisor to the Cambodian government and was to deliver a lecture on economic matters while in Phnom Penh.
Government spokesman Khieu Kanharith said Thaksin flew into the Cambodian capital Tuesday but gave no further details.
BP: Other wire services have photos – see AFP photos here. This is of course is now on the front page of the online newspapers – see Matichon. There was talk of extradition, but the Cambodians have rejected this out of hand – although do you want to trust Hun Sen as can you imagine the chaos in Thailand that would arise from his return. How long will Thaksin stay? Enough time for the Thais to file an extradition request? What will he say and do? These are all unknowns now and we will just have to wait and see.
