Having a highly valid source regarding this story, I have to speak up about the following:
First, the person bothering this girl was NOT the New Zealander that got stabbed. It was, rather, the American culprit.
Second, aside from stabbing the guy in the ear and forearm (where he got 20 stitches), he also stabbed him in the back of the neck and through his shoulder blade.
Whoever wrote this version of the story needs to seriously check his/her facts.
Also, think about it…why would someone supposedly “protecting” a girl stab someone IN THE BACK?
The victim’s name (for those who may know him) is now needlessly being dragged through the mud. This story should be corrected.

2 things come to mind.

1) 2 foreign men fighting over 1 woman at a bar in Hongdae. Either they’re REALLY ugly and/or REALLY drunk or REALLY new here. C’mon, there’s not a shortage of dateable women here! Hell, they could’ve gone across the street to an anma and get their noodles going in no time.

Not anymore. Now it is enough to be in the middle of a degree program. Some government recruiters recently made a presentatation to my wife’s Korean language class.

This is why I’m truly thankful that Korea bans guns. A psycho like that in America, where I live, would have very possibly brandished a gun firing in god knows what direction. I also think a good number of korean teenagers and unemployed youth would want to carry guns around if they were readily available.

Is the American citizen of Korean ethnic background and was he a graduate school student?

I wonder if the attacker has Korean ancestors and was a graduate school student before arriving in South Korea.

Both foreigners involved are white from what Alex B. told me. From the article I don’t see any reason to think Mr. J was a grad student.

Except any club worth shit would have patted him down before allowing him into the club. Sure, if you were in some club in the ghetto (or the sort of club who services that clientele) you might have that threat, but any place worth the cover goes out of their way to make sure their patrons aren’t in danger of fatal shootings. Pretty standard business that if someone gets shot at your club, it’s REAL bad for business.

Jesus, OK I admit I’m not much of a club goer, but why we have to limit ourselves to cover charging and body frisking night clubs, I’m not certain. Alcohol in *any* setting is bound to set off psychos in unpredictable ways. Another problem with the environment here is that you *have* to carry a gun to become entangled in out of control fatal shootings. Refer to Sean Bell’s case example.
