Busan Population Falling
By Nathan Schwartzman Oct 22, 2007 1:09PM UTCPersonally, I always thought of Busan as a neat place. Can anyone who knows fill me in on why its population has been so stubbornly stagnant for two decades now?
The population of Busan has fallen to 3.5 million people, the same level as 20 years ago.
According to the Ministry of Government and Home Affairs and the Busan city government on the 18th, at the end of September the current population in Busan was 3,597,509 people, 4,010 fewer than in June and 22,608 fewer than the same time last year.
The Busan population has gone down 1% every year since 1995, when it stood at 3,892,972, decreasing from 3,711,268 in 2003 and 3,655,389 in 2006. The current population is similar the 1986 figure of 3,578,844. It appears to have stayed at 3.5 million for 20 years. The number of persons per household also fell to 2.77 from 2.82 in September 2006.
