Rising boxing prospect Dodie Boy Peñalosa Jr will try to make a big impression under the glare of Las Vegas lights when he climbs into the ring against a still-to-be-named opponent in one of the undercards of the Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez fight in December.
His uncle, former world super flyweight champion Gerry Peñalosa, said Pacquiao assured him that Dodie Boy Jr will be included in the Pacquiao undercard along with Michael Fariñas.
Fariñas will be up against an opponent that will also be named later.
Dodie Boy Jr is undefeated in 9 professional fights, winning all by knockouts.
He was supposed to fight in the undercard of the Pacquiao-Bradley fight but his father Dodie Sr the young boxer was then not yet ripe for the big fights.
Although Dodie Jr won all his fights by knockouts he has yet to face a quality opponent and who has a winning record.
Dodie Jr however has knockout power in both hands and the Peñalosa technical fighter trademark. His father was former two-division world boxing champion despite a slight disability caused by polio.
Dodie suffered a freak knockdown against Doniel Marcos in the first round in November last year in Lapu-Lapu City but came back to stop his foe in the third round.
He is coming from a 9th round KO win against tough Indonesian journeyman Alex Buckie.
He is a third generation of the Peñalosa boxing family.
His grandfather Carl was a top welterweight contender who once fought for the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation crown.
His uncle Gerry recently retired from boxing after a colorful career that saw him fight in 14 world championship fight.
Gerry held world boxing crowns in the super flyweight and bantamweight classes. Gerry tried to annex a third division boxing crown by fighting as a super bantamweight against Juan Manuel Lopez. He lost in Round 10 for his only stoppage loss.
Overall, Gerry compiled a record of 55 wins (37 by KO), 8 losses and two controversial draws (both in world title fights).
Gerry now promotes and hosts boxing events on television.
Gerry said he plans to bring another nephew, Dave, to fight in General Santos City, possibly in December.
Gerry is married to Goody Llido, a member of one of the landed families in General Santos.
