Based in the dynamic, international city of Barcelona, ESADE Business School is one of the world’s top-ranked business schools with over 50 years’ experience in management development. It offers a wide range of MBA and Executive Education programmes across campuses in Barcelona, Madrid and Buenos Aires. It also has global centres in Sao Paulo and Munich.
ESADE Business School is internationally recognised for the excellent standard of its MBA programmes and is accredited by the world’s three most respected management education organisations: AACSB International, the EQUIS accreditation from the EFMD and the British Association of MBAs (AMBA).
One need only look at ESADE’s success in the independent rankings to see how highly regarded its MBA programmes are:
Financial Times – MBA programmes ranked 21st worldwide,
BusinessWeek – MBA programmes ranked 6th worldwide (non-US),
The Economist – MBA programmes ranked 20th worldwide.
Employment prospects for Asian graduates from ESADE’s MBA programmes are excellent. Mary Granger Lynch, ESADE’S Careers Services and Admissions Director for the Asia region, believes ESADE Business School’s unique approach – having a dedicated person for Admissions and Career Services in the APAC region – means it is in a perfect position to select the students its partner companies are looking for.
“We are able to advise students as to the best way to approach companies in the region. Piggybacking corporate outreach on our recruitment activities means we do double the work to support our students’ career search,” says Ms Granger Lynch.
“As for the alumni network in the APAC region – although we are a small program, we are very innovative using social networks to unify the current students and the alumni; the ESADE Asia Pacific Network has helped facilitate the circulation of job offers and given many networking opportunities and corporate introductions.”
Prospective and existing students, as well as alumni, can connect with each other on the LinkedIn group for Asian students at ESADE. In addition, students have created two unofficial, student-organised websites for Asian students recently, one in Japanese and one in Korean.
ESADE’s full-time MBA offers excellent flexibility, allowing students to customise their MBA experience in 12, 15 or 18 months according to their objectives.
ESADE Business School’s distinctive methodology balances theory and practice rather than exclusively focusing on the case method. Simulating real working conditions, cross-functional and multicultural teamwork is an integral pillar of the school’s collaborative methodology, structured around the geographic, functional and academic diversity of its student population. It also places strong emphasis on entrepreneurship as a means of creating value for organisations and the development of leadership competencies through the LEAD programme.
As a select programme, ESADE delivers unmatched personalised attention. Career Services works closely with participants helping develop and manage the entire job search process through one-to-one advice and guidance meetings, coaching sessions, seminars and workshops. As a comparatively small business school, students are able to stand out in front of the leading multinational companies that recruit on campus. Some 88 percent of all job placements are internationally located (outside of Spain).
The ESADE MBA is a unique experience open to a select number of highly diverse participants, designed to harness students’ passion for business as a means to opening professional opportunities.
By aligning The ESADE MBA to real business needs, graduates emerge with relevant analytical tools, global strategic vision and multicultural leadership competencies.
ESADE’s Executive MBA (EMBA) is aimed at executives in management positions who want to build on their skills and knowledge. This programme fosters initiative and active management, and instills a global vision of general management in participants. This five-phase part-time programme allows executives to maintain workplace duties while gaining a global view of the business world. The curriculum includes study tours to top business schools in the USA and UK.
Global Executive MBA
ESADE Business School also offers the Global Executive MBA (GEMBA) in collaboration with Georgetown University. This exclusive part-time programme combines distance learning with six international modules located in Washington, Moscow, Barcelona, New York, Brazil/Argentina and India/China. The GEMBA is targeted at professionals with more than eight years’ postgraduate work experience and an international profile.
ESADE also offers a part-time MBA and four Executive Masters programmes, which are taught primarily in Spanish:
ESADE’s Full-time MBA students are the heart and soul of student life at the Barcelona campus. Each year, 180 new MBA recruits join ESADE and each year brings new events, activities, sports and clubs, depending on what the new students are interested in.
ESADE’s MBA Student Association, known as MBASA, is run exclusively by and for students, with support from the MBA Unit for promotion of activities and merchandising. The association runs 19 clubs at present, including:
* Net Impact Club (social and corporate responsibility)
* Marketing Club
* Consulting Club
* Emerging Markets Club
* Xtreme Sports Club
* Entrepreneurship Club
… to name but a few. A huge number of activities are organised and held by students each month. Students also take part in a large number of international case competitions.
ESADE’s rigorous Full-time MBA requires that international students settle into their new life as quickly and easily as possible. International Student Affairs Officer, Jura Zymantas, is on hand to help with all international student needs, including visa queries, help with accommodation etc. Many questions are also asked, and answered, through individual class Facebook sites.
Additionally, MBASA has a buddy system where a current student is assigned to assist an incoming student to help with all their queries before arriving and on arrival to ESADE. These are almost always people from the same country/town as the incoming student.
Living in Barcelona
Barcelona is a vibrant and bustling Mediterranean city with a diverse culture and entertainment few other cities can match. Its historical heritage enthrals visitors from around the world and its internationally acclaimed architecture continues to surprise and inspire. In 2011, Barcelona was voted ‘Best Summer City’ by Lonely Planet.
Barcelona enjoys mild temperatures all year round and its location makes it especially attractive for sports fans. The ski resorts in the Pyrenees are just a two-hour drive away and there is a magnificent marina for water sports fans. The 1992 Olympic Games enhanced the range and quality of the city’s sports facilities, offering something for everyone. If you prefer a more tranquil experience, the beach always provides a relaxing day out whether in Barcelona or one of the coastal towns along the Costa Brava.
For foodies, the rich Mediterranean diet is known around the world for its colourful flavours and healthy benefits. Barcelona has a broad range of restaurants and tapas bars to choose from and for wine lovers the famous Priorat, Penedés and Montsant regions are just an hour’s drive away.

With close to one-sixth of the MBA population hailing from Asia, ESADE not only allows students from Asia to interact with each other, but also facilitates the fostering of bonds with counterparts from around the world. Despite being a European school, the career services’ wide network extends to Asia, as candidates are assisted in their job hunt, if they prefer to return to Asia. Candidates choosing to stay in Europe are also given assistance in settling in, ranging from visa application to connecting with alumni members throughout Europe. In a nutshell, ESADE provides an excellent opportunity for Asian candidates to explore different cultures, while remaining connected to home.

On the next school day after the devastating tsunami in Japan, Glòria Batllori, Executive Director of the MBA Programs Unit here at ESADE, voluntarily recorded and uploaded a short video on to the ESADE website to show her sympathy on behalf of the whole school. We, the Japanese students, who were shaken by the earthquake and tsunami in our home country, were touched by this gesture and ESADE’s warm heart and sensitivity towards people from the other side of earth. We really felt ESADE as family at that moment, pulling together when it really counted.
