BEIJING (AP) — China’s official Xinhua News Agency says the death toll from a strong earthquake in southern Yunnan province has risen to 391.

The news agency says that according to rescuers, 1,881 other people were injured in the quake, which topped thousands of homes in Ludian, a densely populated county located around 366 kilometers (277 miles) northeast of Yunnan’s capital, Kunming.

The magnitude-6.1 quake struck at 4.30pm at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles), according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
