BEIJING (AP) — A landslide in a village in China’s mountainous southwest has killed at least one person and left 15 missing.

A report on the website of the government of Fugong County in Yunnan province said two people also were injured in the slide Monday.

Photos on the website showed rescue workers in front of a huge pile of rocks, dirt and sand.

A woman who answered the phone in the county government’s propaganda department refused to give any other details or her name.

Landslides are frequent in China, where deforestation has led to serious soil erosion.
