JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — The Indonesian military says an explosion at a navy ammunition warehouse killed one officer and injured more than 80 others.

Indonesian military spokesman Iskandar Sitompul said Wednesday’s blast at the navy’s amphibious special forces unit north of Jakarta happened while officers were trying to extinguish a fire caused by a short circuit.

A first sergeant was killed in the blast while another officer is under intensive treatment at the Navy Hospital in Jakarta, Sitompul said.

Sitompul said a total of 87 people were injured, of whom 72 were being treated at two hospitals.

The arsenal in Pondok Dayung is located beside Indonesia’s largest seaport of Tanjung Priok.
