Settling Into University LifeBy University of Derby Dec 13, 2013 10:36PM UTC
When you arrive in the UK we want to make it as easy as possible to get Derby and make settling in as convenient as possible.
We recommend booking your flights as early as possible, this way tickets are cheaper to purchase.
Remember to check whether your course is based at Derby or Buxton before you plan your journey.
We offer a meet and greet service in both September and January for our international students. This service is free and you must book in advance.
The next meet and greet free service will be on Friday 10 January 2014 from the following airports only:
- London Heathrow Airport
- East Midlands Airport
- Manchester International Airport (this is the closest airport to our Buxton Campus)
We have arranged a separate date for Buxton students on Wednesday 15 January 2014 at Manchester International Airport only.
If you are making your own way to Derby you can let us know when you are arriving in the UK. We can contact you and support you in your journey to the University.
We also offer the welcome programme to new students, designed to help you adjust to living in the UK. This is spread over two weeks including:
- Making sure you settle into halls of residence (where our student live in their first year)
- Visiting the city centre, showing students around the bus station, banks, supermarkets and more
Various talks are held explaining how to:
- Budget your money
- Open a bank account
- Adjust to UK culture
Here is the timetable for our January welcome programme:
