McCargo: Monarchists wobbly on electoral democracyBy Bangkok Pundit Dec 12, 2013 2:32PM UTC
Duncan McCargo in a Room For Debate post at the New York Times states:
Second, monarchists are wobbly on electoral democracy. Popular politicians such as the controversial former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, whose parties have won all five general elections since 2001, offer unwelcome competition. By vilifying allegedly venal politicians, royalists commandeer the moral high ground and undermine the legitimacy of elections.
BP: The rest of the piece* makes some interesting points and partly overlaps with Handley’s piece in Foreign Policy… It is 2013 and we are still having a debate about electoral democracy. Seriously, wtf?!
