The Professor of Sustainable Architecture and Climate Change, and Director of the Oxford Institute for Sustainable Development (OISD) at Oxford Brookes University, is one of 13 international experts to be recognised for work on sustainability and the built environment. He joins fellow academics and industry leads to become one of the most word-renowned experts who have made a big impact in a relatively short space of time.
The International Stars of Building Science initiative was created to recognise the achievements of those promoting the very best in building science. It praises those who have an aim of improving the quality, sustainability and resilience of the built environment, with an overall aim of making people’s lives better. Professor Gupta was praised as ‘an inspiring and passionate lecturer’ by his nomination and votes from peers.
He was instrumental in developing the world’s first global common carbon metric (CCM) for the United Nations Environment Programme’s Sustainable Buildings and Climate Initiative. That CCM protocol has been applied worldwide and is being developed into an ISO standard.
Commenting on the announcement, Professor Gupta said: “I am delighted to be recognised with this honour. The list of inductees is an impressive range of significant players in the built environment sector and it is a real honour to join them.”
“The work I do at Oxford Brookes and as part of the Oxford Institute for Sustainable Development is helping to create a sustainable future through research in the built and natural environments.”
“We are currently involved in a range of funded research for research councils, industry and the public sector and this accolade will hopefully provide even greater opportunities in furthering this work.”
Professor Fergus Nicol, Professor Emeritus of Architecture at Oxford Brookes, was also recognised in the nominee list for the International Stars of Building Science initiative.
