Dr Heesom promotes benefits of BIM to the construction industryBy University of Wolverhampton Jul 03, 2013 10:48PM UTC
Dr. David Heesom, a Reader in Building Information Modelling (BIM), within our architecture and design department, is currently in the final stages of completing a UK tour providing seminars to discuss the benefits of Building Information Modelling (BIM) to the UK construction industry.
Dr. Heesom was working with CITB Construction Skills to deliver these courses to practitioners from all parts of the UK construction industry in order to help them make the transition to using BIM on all publicly funded projects by the government deadline of 2016. The seminars have run throughout the UK from Dundee to Southampton. Dr. Heesom says:
This has been a fantastic opportunity, not only to promote something that I have been researching for the last 12 years, but also to directly engage with the industry throughout the UK, and be able to transfer knowledge from the University directly into the industry. In response to the feedback, we are now hoping to develop further courses on implementing BIM strategies, working together with Construction Skills.
Feedback from the attendees has been very positive with comments such as “I have been to previous BIM sessions and came away with little knowledge. This was very useful and taught me a lot, David explained this complex subject in easy to understand language”.
Dr. David Heesom has achieved Chartered Architectural Technology status with the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT). The Architecture and Design Department have a strong repuation of having staff who are not only academic experts, but recognised by industry as having practical knowledge and professional body’s, such as CIAT and RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects).
